Turtle at Lau Lau that Tammy saw on the surface when we were about 50 feet deep. When it dove down to the top of the reef at about 35 feet I went up and swam with it for a couple of minutes.

This is an old pipe at Lau Lau that goes out into the bay. It has a lot of stuff growing on it.

I was on my back when Tammy drifted by.

This is Jason, he is a sales rep with Xerox and gave us a tour of The Grotto.

This is Judy and Dennis. We met them at A.A.D. (All American Divers) and they showed us around Obyan.

Tammy took a picture of these two lion/turkey fish, and when we looked at the actual picture, we found three of them.

The clown fish are cute.

This little Eel was hanging out at about 50 feet or so. It is a little more yellow then the others we have seen.

There are lots of little fish hanging around the sea fans.

This school of fish were out looking for food at Lau Lau.
|
They must have found something good to eat because they all swarmed on that one spot.

I think I might have scared them.

The trevally were keeping them herded in an underwater canon so they would still be around at dinner time.

These next few pictures are from the Grotto. It is a underwater cave that the roof fell in on. You hike down a long set of stairs where you enter the water. There are three holes that lead out to the open water and the wall outside the cave. It is the signature dive of the island and everyone wants to do it. To get outside the cave, you need to go down below 30ft and once out, it is easy to go down past 130ft very fast. It is not easy to find the holes to get back in if you get separated from your divemaster, and there is no way to shore from outside. If you do surface outside you are on a cliff line, with very sharp rocks and big waves. I have seen a large Neapolitan Wrasse, and large clam, but in general the flora and fauna are not as good as other sites. People go there for the caves, sharks and swim throughs.

The best time to dive the Grotto is at dawn. Then you can see sharks and turtles that sleep inside as they start their day. You enter the water when it is still dark around 5:30. It is much too dangerous to do a night dive, because of how easy it is to get disoriented once outside. With the dawn dive, you start out in the dark, but it is light out for your last half of the dive.

Saturday April 30th
Well, here we are in Paradise..................diving heaven!
We took off for Lau Lau again, and had a wonderful dive. There were a lot of other people there when we
showed up, looked like a dive convention! This seems to be a popular place to dive, and I can see why, easy
entry and exit, and lots to see! We made our way down to the water, and again, I was just mesmerized by the
warm clear water! I could stay in all day. Our dive lasted about 50 minutes or so, and we had to get out :(
It was, again, wonderful, relaxing, heaven! We took my tank and lead back to the shop, and headed home for
some lunch.
Sunday, May 1................May day!
We showed up at the dive shop early.....we beat the employees there! After hanging out for a few minutes, we
were loaded up and ready to go diving!
We met a few people at the Speedy Tertle Dive shop for their fun dive, we ended up going to Wing beach.
The dive was nice, the entry was a little difficult, I almost lost a fin! Mark had to go down and get it for me.
Once we were down, it was incredible. We saw a big moray, a smaller moray, and of course lots of fish,
including at least 3 lion fish. We had an easier time getting out than we did getting in, just wish we could
have stayed down longer........the dives are NEVER long enough! We got out of the water, and took off our
gear to head back to town, and take my tank back.....another day of diving done.
Saturday May 7, 2005
We are off for another diving weekend! This Morning we headed out a little later than normal, I had a job
interview so....wish me luck!
Look out Lau Lau, here we come! This site is very easy, and there are numerous fish that come right up to you
waiting for a hand out so, this is one of my favorite places to go. Mark took his camera and got a few really
good pictures. There was a big coral head that had a Huge Trigger on it, he let Mark get close a couple of
times, then would swim off in a huff, we were interrupting his breakfast I guess. I tried a different tank, a 67
instead of an 80, and had a little trouble with my buoyancy. I think I will just stick to an 80 until I get my own
tank to use. We had a pretty good dive, other than my problems, and had a great relaxing Saturday afternoon
at the "Taste of the Mariana's" at the American Memorial Park.....more on that on the "island" page :)
Sunday May 8, 2005 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO EVERYONE OUT THERE!
Mark and I went to Lau Lau again.....I love that place!
We had a great dive, although Mark had some mask trouble, he says it is from his whiskers growing too long
on the weekends because he doesn't shave! So, he didn't take too many pictures on this dive, we just had a
really relaxing swim with the fishies! We looked for our friend the Trigger, did not see him this time. We did
see some cool stuff though.
We ALWAYS have a great time though...isn't that what diving is all about?
